Game Day of Champions and High School All-Star
Game
On December 11th, the Tampa
Bay Sports Commission hosted the annual Game Day of Champions and
High School All-Star Game at Raymond James Stadium. This
year's Game Day of Champions featured teams from the Florida
Youth Football and Cheerleading Association, New
Tampa Wildcats, Pop Warner Little Scholars, Tampa Bay Youth
Football League, and West Coast Youth Football
Conference. "I started the Game Day of Champions 10 years ago in the
old Sombrero with a goal to give our young
athletes memories of a lifetime," said Hillsborough Board of County
Commissioners Chairman Jim Norman. "Since that first game, we
have hosted thousands of boys and girls to enjoy this fabulous
experience. This could never have happened without great
community leaders and corporations, primarily the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers."
In the evening, immediately
following the Game Day of Champions, all-star teams from Hillsborough
County
High
Schools and
Orange County
(FL) High
Schools squared off in two
high-caliber football games at Raymond James Stadium. In the
first game, the Hillsborough County
East squad beat Orange County East 52-21. In the second game of
the night, Hillsborough
County West defeated its Orange
County
counterparts
24-7.
Tampa
Bay Sun Bowl
The 27th annual
Tampa Bay Sun Bowl kicked off December 27th and continued until
champions were crowned on December 30th. The annual soccer
tournament which had 285 club teams from 27 states was held at the
University of South Florida, the Ed Radice Complex, and many other
facilities throughout the Tampa Bay area. The Sun Bowl attracted 139 college
coaches to this year's event.
AAU
Winter Nationals
The AAU Winter
National Baseball Tournament, the largest winter baseball tournament
in the United States, took place the last week of December in the
Tampa Bay area. The event featured 121 teams competing in age groups
ranging from 8-under to 19-under. Opening Ceremonies kicked off the
tournament on December 26th at the Ed Radice Sports Complex
with an exciting night of skills competitions. Games were played
throughout the week at Ed Radice Sports Complex, Citrus Park Little
League, Skyway Little League, and several local high schools. The champions of each age group were awarded rings to
commemorate their victory. |

International Wheelchair Rugby
Tournament
On January
21-23, Tampa will host the Coloplast International
Wheelchair Rugby Tournament at the Temple Terrace Family Recreation
Complex. This event, in it's 13th year, will feature teams from the
United States, Canada, and Sweden. This tournament has worldwide
implications. Last year's champion, New Zealand, went on to win the
gold medal in the 2004 Paralympic Games. The Tampa Bay Sports
Commission would like to thank BlazeSports Tampa Bay, Hillsborough
County's premiere organization for special-needs athletes facing
physical challenges, who has been instrumental in the success
of this tournament in the Tampa Bay area. |

Zeigler |

As Senior Vice President and
Sales Manager of Levy Awards and Promotional Products, Lee Zeigler
oversees and manages all sales and marketing for the Tampa-based
company. Sales for Levy Awards and Promotional Products are in
excess of $5 million and they are responsible for servicing numerous
accounts nationally. With sales and marketing in his blood, it is
easy to understand how Zeigler is so passionate about marketing
Tampa as a sports destination in his work with the Tampa Bay Sports
Commission. A native of Tampa, Lee has been involved in the Tampa
Bay Sports Commission since its inception and served as Chairman
from 1997-2000. The Tampa Bay Sports Commission thanks Lee Zeigler
for his valued involvement on the Tampa Bay Sports Commission Board
of Directors.

on and hosting major amateur sporting events. Our mission is
