TAMPA, Fla. - At the BlazeSports Tampa Bay Annual Awards Luncheon, Andy Chasanoff, Blaze Director honored the Tampa Bay Sports Commission with the 2005 Friend of the Team Award. The award recognized the Tampa Bay Sports Commission for outstanding dedication and support of the BlazeSports Tampa Bay Sports Program.
BlazeSports Tampa Bay, Hillsborough County’s premiere organization for special-needs athletes facing physical challenges and has proven itself to be a model club developing programs and initiatives that are making it widely visible in the community. With 130 athletes participating in at least one sport, BlazeSports Tampa Bay continues to accomplish its mission of maximizing the potential of people with physical disabilities through sport. In 2002, BlazeSports Tampa Bay was named BlazeSports Club of America. Introduced in 1998, Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department was one of only twenty (20) charter communities in the country that were selected to host a BlazeSports program. That number has quickly grown to forty-three (43) communities in 22 states.
The mission of the Tampa Bay Sports Commission is to attract, promote and/or organize major amateur sporting events and grassroots sporting programs that foster the ongoing development and quality of life for the Tampa Bay Area.
