TAMPA, Fla. - On December 8, at the Tampa Bay Business Journal’s 2005 Business of the Year awards dinner, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission received the Special Community Business Award for Services to the Region. The Tampa Bay Sports Commission was a finalist for the award along with the HomeBanc Mortgage Corporation and Diamonds Direct, Inc. “The past 12 months have been unprecedented for the Tampa Bay Sports Commission,” said Chairman Ronald J. Campbell. “We appreciate the confidence of the Hillsborough Tourist Development Council, our county leadership, the Tampa Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the many sponsors that support our mission.”
“Additionally, we should note that the efforts of the sports commission do more than just bring events and economic impact to our community. For example, last year’s Southeast High School Football Combine brought dozens of universities to the Tampa Bay region, which in turn granted 28 football scholarships to deserving student-athletes. Hopefully, those numbers grow even greater next year.
The recognition concludes a stellar year of accolades that included winning the BlazeSports 2005 Friend of the Team award and the 2005 Florida A&M Distinguished Community Service Award.
