TAMPA, Fla. - Hillsborough County Parks and Recreation Department, Florida Scholastic Rowing and Tampa Bypass Canal Rowing Council will host the Southeast District Youth Championship Rowing Regatta at Tampa’s, Harney Park Bypass Canal Racecourse on 301 North, Saturday May 13th and Sunday May 14th.
The newly installed racecourse hosts a 1500 & 1850 meter-buoyed course. Over 40 high school teams will be arriving in Tampa, Friday afternoon, May 12th for practice sessions at the Tampa Bypass Canal racecourse. Racing begins at 6:20am Saturday May 13th and continues throughout the day until after 6:00pm and then resumes again on Sunday morning, May 14th. Participating teams come from North & South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Mississippi. Over 1500 high school rowing athletes and well over 3000 spectators and coaches will be on hand to participate in this event. The Southeast District Championships is one of the premiere rowing events in the state of Florida and Southeastern United States, with qualifying teams and boats going to USRowing Nationals held in Cincinnati, Ohio. Hillsborough County is honored to host this prestigious event and to have three local participating teams; Plant High Rowing Association, Tampa Catholic High School and Berkeley Prepatory School.
Off site parking will be at Tampa Bay Technical High School with USF shuttle buses running to the event site throughout the day. On site at the Harney Park racecourse bleachers and vendors will set up for spectators and teams alike.
