VOLLEYBALL MARKET CONTINUES TO EXPERIENCE SOLID GROWTH

TAMPA, Fla. - With the 2009 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship on the horizon, the Tampa Bay area is continuing to bolster its reputation as a hotspot for the sport of volleyball. Over this past President’s Day weekend the Tampa United Volleyball Association hosted their annual Kickoff Classic at the Tampa Convention Center. This tournament showcased the talents of club teams from ages 12-18 and generated more than 2,400 hotel visitor room nights. The first of two events in 2009, the Tampa United Volleyball Association will host their United Slam at the Convention Center in April over Easter weekend.

Another elite level tournament comes to Tampa Bay this weekend when some of the top teams throughout the country face off at the Joseph Volleyball Inc. Molten Mizuno Pre-Qualifier. The Pre-Qualifier will feature teams ages 12-18 and will include a guarantee of five matches for each team over Saturday and Sunday. This year’s tournament is projected to generate more than 1,200 hotel visitor room nights.

Tampa Bay will welcome the 2009 NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship to the sunshine state for the first time in the Championship’s history this December. The Tampa Bay Sports Commission in partnership with the St. Pete Times Forum, Tampa Bay & Company, and the University of South Florida, will host Championship at the St. Pete Times Forum, December 17-19, 2009.
