TAMPA, Fla. - The Women’s Blue-Chip Basketball League has awarded the Tampa Bay X-Factor the 2009 Regional and National Championships this August. The Suncoast Regional will take place August 1-2, while the National will take over August 14-16.
The Women’s Blue-Chip Basketball League (WBCBL) is a new semi-professional league for women basketball players. The WBCBL’s mission is to provide highly competitive basketball for women age 20 and older. The competition level varies from former college players to former NWBL and WNBA players and current international players.
“With the advantages and opportunities for this League to expand and grow, this is a great honor to be the host team and city for the 2009 WBCBL National and Regional Championships,” says Donna Carr, President of the Tampa Bay X-Factor. “This will not only give the local team some awareness and a chance to show and share with the community affordable action but it’ll help increase support for Women’s Basketball as a whole.”
Last year, in their first season with the league, the Tampa Bay X-Factor, which plays their games at Jefferson High, went unbeaten en route to the league championship. The purpose of the X-Factor mission is to help bridge the gap for women in sports and to help steer those up in coming athletes in the right directions.
