Fellowship of Christian Athletes to Hold “God and Country Weekend” In Plant City

TAMPA, Fla. – On January 13-14, 2012, many of the nation’s finest softball stars will gather at Plant City Stadium, the International Softball Federation World Headquarters, to take on the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team in a special “God & Country Weekend.”

“We are pleased to welcome the FCA All-Stars and Wounded Warriors team to the Tampa Bay area in January,” said Jason Aughey, Sales & Events Manager for the Tampa Bay Sports Commission. “This event will feature remarkable athletes and promises great competition and a great time for all involved.”

This family-friendly weekend is an excellent way to support our servicemen and women. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes Softball (FCA) All-Star team will include Olympic Gold Medalist Dot Richardson, two-time Olympic medalist Jennie Finch, three-time Olympic gold medalist Leah Amico and many more. The FCA All-Stars will be outfitted by Two Five Apparel and fans will be able to purchase raffle tickets for the opportunity to win these game jerseys off the pros’ backs. The Wounded Warriors team will feature some of the nation’s bravest heroes. The team is comprised of soldiers and veterans who sustained severe injuries in combat that required amputation. In spite of this, these extremely athletic soldiers have persevered through extensive rehabilitation to remain competitive.

“We are honored to be able to set up this weekend’s many events with these special men and women.  It will be a great opportunity to see some fun softball, meet the players, and most of all, get our message and the message of the WWAST to many people,” said Bob Pinto, FCA National Softball Director. “We are very appreciative to have the Tampa Bay Sports Commission on board.  Their input and direction is invaluable.”

An autograph session will follow Friday’s Game 1 as well as Saturday’s Game 3. Tickets are $5 per person Friday; $10 for both of games Saturday; and $25 per seat for Saturday evening’s God and Country Banquet.  The banquet is a unique opportunity to hear motivational speakers from both teams. All event tickets are available and can be purchased online at www.fcasoftball.org or they can be purchased at the gate on the day of the event.

In addition to these exciting weekend events, the God and Country Youth Softball Fastpitch tournament will be taking place at the neighboring Randy L. Larson FourPlex. This event is hosted by Exceed Sports and VTD Softball. It will give youth travel teams from across Florida country an opportunity to play at the ISF World Headquarters, just like the professionals! The participating fastpitch athletes will be honored during the National Anthem and pre-game ceremonies at Plant City Stadium and will be given tickets to each of the games. The youth tournament is open to 10U, 12U and 14U age groups and teams can sign up at www.fastpitchsoftball.net. For more information, please visit, www.Exceed-Sports.com.
