30TH ANNUAL DIXIE REGIONAL GAMES IN TAMPA

More than 150 junior and adult athletes displayed their talents last weekend in front of family, coaches and officials from across the country at the 30th Annual Dixie Regional Games in Tampa.

The four-day competition, which was held at All People’s Life Center, Temple Terrace Family Recreation Complex, USF and Embassy Suites USF/ Busch Gardens, included a variety of Olympic-style events including archery, swimming, table tennis, track and field, weightlifting and fencing. Athletes with such disabilities as cerebral palsy, visual impairments, amputations/limp deficiencies and spinal cord injuries attended this competition with nearly 600 family members, friends and volunteers in support.

The local host organization, Paralympic Sport Tampa Bay, reported that participation in this year’s Dixie Games doubled from last year, and participants were thrilled with their overall experience.

The Dixie Wheelchair Athletic Association’s (DWAA) region includes Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee. The mission of the DWAA is to enhance lives of children and adults with physical disabilities through competitive sport.
