Tampa Bay to Host Series of Bowling Tournaments Across 2020-2021
Three Local Bowling Venues to Host Series of Tournaments
TAMPA, FL – Four top-tier bowling events will visit the Tampa Bay community over the course of 2020-21, including the 2020 Florida State USBC Open Tournament, the Florida State Pepsi Finals / Florida State Handicap, the 2021 Florida State Youth Scholarship Tournament and the 2021 Florida State Women's Senior Tournament. The tournaments will take place at Pin Chasers Midtown, Brandon Crossroads Center and Pin Chasers-Pasco.
The first tournament on the docket, the 2020 Florida State USBC Open Tournament, launched Saturday, May 30, and will host six consecutive weekends of action at the Pin Chasers Midtown and Pin Chasers Pasco locations. The tournament has not appeared in Tampa Bay since 1989 and is now considered one of the largest bowling events in the state. In total, between 800 and 850 teams (five-to-six members per team) will participate, including 300 from the Tampa Bay area.
In March 2021, the Florida State Pepsi Finals will begin five weekends of action as 3,000 youth bowlers between the ages of five and 18 will compete at the Brandon Crossroads Center. This will mark the third time Tampa Bay has hosted the event (2017, 2019). Pepsi will allocate close to $90,000.00 in scholarship dollars during the tournament.
June 2021 will feature another 350+ team tournament at the Florida State Youth Scholarship Tournament. Taking place at Pin Chaser Midtown and Pin Chasers Pasco, the tournament will span across all four weekends of June. Since its inception, the event has given away nearly $30,000.00 in scholarships. Tampa Bay previously hosted the event in 2017.
The 2021 Florida State Women’s Senior Tournament will close-out the quartet of events as between 400 and 500 women (50+) will participate at Pin Chasers Midtown during the first two weeks of November in singles and doubles competitions. This will mark the first time Tampa Bay has hosted the event in the last 10 years.
“The Greater Tampa United States Bowling Congress (USBC) board is very excited about the upcoming tournaments that will be held in Tampa in 2021-2021,” said Dalia Keyes, USBC Association Manager. “We’re expecting thousands of bowlers at these top-flight events and know it will be impactful for the entire area.”
