Lanness Robinson

Bio

Lanness Robinson joined the Tampa Bay Sports Commission (TBSC) as the organization’s Executive Director in December 2025. Formally, Robinson held the reins as the District Director of Athletics at Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS), from 2006-2025. 

In addition to his athletic administration role, Robinson was elected President of the association in 2020 and led the NIAAA at the beginning of the difficult COVID-19 pandemic. He was also a member of the NIAAA Professional Development Academy (PDA) staff.  

At the state level, Robinson is a past president of the Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (FIAAA). He has chaired their Strategic Plan Committee, is a current state LTI instructor, and a member of the FIAAA board of directors.

Beginning in 2018, Robinson became the executive director of the National Football Foundation (NFF) Tampa Chapter. Additionally, he led the HCPS Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and is the executive director of the Freddie Solomon Legacy Foundation. He is also an active partner of the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA).

Robinson has been honored previously with an NIAAA Frank Kovaleski Professional Development Award, NIAAA Bruce D. Whitehead Distinguished Service Award, NIAAA Award of Merit, NIAAA State Award of Merit, NFHS Citation, and FIAAA Dr. Clarence Noe Athletic Director of the Year.

Robinson, a two-time TBSC Board Chairman (2015-16 and 2022-23), has also engaged in a series of other TBSC major event committees, including serving on the 2017 College Football Playoff Tampa Bay Local Organizing Committee and Extra Yard for Teachers Committee, in addition to the Super Bowl LV Host Committee and Forever 55 Advisory Committee.

A former high school football, basketball, and tennis player at Ely High School (Pompano Beach), Robinson was a Plant City High School head basketball coach and assistant football coach from 1995-2000, as well as the athletics director at Wharton High School from 2001-2006. 

Lanness is a graduate of Florida State University and earned his master’s in educational leadership from Saint Leo University. Robinson is married to his wife, Christine, and he has two children, Jasmyn and Trey.
